Carolus Linnaeus (1707 - 1778): 300 years of taxonomies

Carolus Linnaeus

Carolus Linnaeus was born 300 years ago (the 23rd of May) in Råshult, Sweden, from a protestant vicar named Nils Linnaeus. Linnaeus scientific work could be considered as the starting point of the Binomial Nomenclature a formal naming standard used in natural sciences.

1707

In 1707 the world was experiencing not only Linnaeus birth:

  • England and Scotland are united into the United Kingdom of Great Britain
  • The Scottish Parliament is abolished and Scotland receives representation in the British.
  • The last eruption of the sacred Mount Fujiyama (Fuji) in Japan.
