comScore a global leader in measuring the digital world announces qSearch
qSearch 2.0 is the First Service to Report Search Activity for France and the World.
Thanks to the comScore's press release announcing qSearch, we have a peak on the search engines market share in France (data does not take in consideration access from Internet cafes or the like, and mobile devices such as PDAs.)
Google speaks French better than anybody else
The results are quite interesting, not because Google is the leading search engines, but because of the leading gap it has.
Data refers to share of searches in France as of July 2007. The following are the first three search engine brands.
- 85.8% of the searches pass through Google web sites
- 3.8% of the searches pass through Yahoo! web sites
- 3.4% of the searches pass through Microsoft web sites
Searching while auctioning
An interesting data is the fourth place of the above ranking held by eBay, with the 2.2% of the searches. This tell us two things, the first one is French users are quite good at finding hidden features (I didn't find the search box on eBay) or it could be that the reports count searches on the eBay site as searches on the web (I'm asking a question here). The second thing is eBay is a strong player in France.
National companies are nearly non-existent
The first French company in the report is France Telecom, France national telephone operator with 2.0% of the searches.
