Germanwatch, a German think tank devoted to the promotion of North-South equity and the preservation of livelihoods. We observe, ana-lyse and interfere. In doing so, we focus on the politics and economics of the North with their worldwide consequences. presented today in Bali (Indonesia) the Climate Change Performance Index 2008, a comparison of the 56 top CO2 emitting nations.

No big surprises, apart from the very poor performance of Italy, a Country that signed the Kyoto protocol but ranking quite at the bottom, below nations that did not adhere to the protocol. Having a look at the Table: Overall Results / Country ranking, Italy hits the 41st place, among OECD Countries worse than that there are: Japan, Greece, Ireland, Korea Republic, Luxembourg, Canada, Australia, USA. Australia and USA refused to Ratify the Kyoto Protocol. Better than Italy have scored Mexico (on 4th place) and Turkey (on 21st), two nations without Kyoto Commitment. Among EU Countries, worse than Italy, only Greece, Ireland, Cyprus and Luxembourg.
