Umberto Eco on media and populism

An interesting piece on the New York Times Magazine, Deborah Solomon interviews Umberto Eco. Online an extract on Media and Populism: Questions for Umberto Eco, Media Studies

Stupid Questions With Deborah Solomon

Week after week Deborah Solomon exhibits her ignorance. The questions she asked of Umberto Eco were display her lack of knowledge. She asked, "Are you saying that Germany got the idea of fascism from Italy?" She then stated that only Italian historians believe this. A simple chronology proves this to be so. Duh Deborah! Let's see, Mussolini reformed facism in 1919 and then became Prime Minister of Italy in 1922. Who did Hitler pattern much of his "style" after? Oh, yes, the man who was already a facist leader. Deborah Solomon is an idiot!

Some research more, maybe

I'm afraid I do not know enough either the lady in question or her work to give such a personal comment; while it is quite obvious her studies did not had anything to do with Modern History.

I guess some research should have been taken into account, considered her role and who's interviewing, before sorting out with, this I agree, idiocies like that ones.
